Tailgate lunch in West Chester

WEST CHESTER (FOX19) - West Chester Township will present the First Financial Tailgate Party during lunchtime Wednesday.

The event is at on The Square at Union Centre, 9285 Centre Pointe Drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

There will be food for sale from Raffel Catering, music from DJ Johnnie B, and football toss and cornhole.

The township is encouraging visitors to wear their school colors and be prepared to hum a few bars of their school fight song. The event has been held previously, so it appears the fight songs have not led to any actual fights.

Dogs to take over Fairfield pool

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - The Fairfield Aquatic Center closed for the season on Labor Day, at least for people.

For dogs, it's a different story.  They get their own "Dog Day" from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6th. 

Dogs can enjoy the whole pool, the special water features, and a large grassy area by the pool.  Lifeguards will be on duty.

If you're a human, you're allowed to wade in the shallow end.

One dog is allowed in per person.  Admission is free with a season pass, and otherwise dollars per family.

The Aquatic Center is at 2605 Augusta Boulevard, which runs south from Resor Road between Pleasant Avenue and Winton Road.

Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown continues through the weekend

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - For the first time in the history of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown features schools from Cincinnati, Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Indiana. Several games will be played through the weekend at UC's Nippert Stadium and at St. Xavier High School. In Mason on Thursday, Turpin came out on top against Loveland with a 24-6 win.

The remaining games include: Friday, August 27 at Nippert Stadium: Anderson vs. Oak Hills, 6:00 p.m.; Elder vs. Winton Woods, 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 28 at Nippert Stadium: La Salle vs. Lakota West, Noon; Middletown vs. Simon Kenton, 2:45 p.m.; Harrison vs. East Central, Indiana 5:30p.m.; Colerain vs. Northmont, 8:15 p.m.

Sunday, August 29 at St. Xavier High School: St. Xavier vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel, 3:00p.m.; Moeller vs. Huber Heights Wayne, 7:00p.m.

Advance tickets are available for $10 dollars.

Lakota sports passes on sale

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- Do you like High School sports? Supporters can buy family, adult and single student athletic passes starting on today for Lakota East and Lakota West events.

The passes can be purchased at the athletic offices at East & West between the 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Each school offers an all-sport family pass, which allows all family members access to all home sporting events for $165. Those passes can be upgraded with an additional $55 to include all home events for both schools.

Lakota West family passes will be honored at home events for Lakota Ridge Jr., Lakota Plains Jr. and Lakota West Freshman schools.

Lakota East family passes will be honored at home events for Liberty Jr., Hopewell Jr. and Lakota East Freshman schools.

Single student and single adult all-sports pass can also be purchased.

Butler County Tourism Generates $769 Million in 2009

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)– The Butler County Visitors Bureau (BCVB) releases data detailing the economic impact of tourism in Butler County for 2009.

This information is a result of an integrated consumer-based research study organized by the Ohio Department of Development's Tourism Division and conducted by Longwoods International and Tourism Economics.

The Butler County Visitors Bureau is one of 53 county/city convention and visitors bureaus, cities and economic development boards that took part in the study.

"Visitor spending and employment figures are essential factors to consider when evaluating the importance of travel and tourism to Butler County's economy," Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of the BCVB said. "We also must consider the indirect benefits that result from this important industry.

Largest AAU girls’ basketball championships in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- The AAU 13U Girls' Basketball DI, DII, DIII National Championships takes place in West Chester, July 9 -14, 2010.

The tournament is hosted by the Butler County Visitors Bureau (BCVB), Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB), and the Cincinnati Heat Premier.

Butler County is one of only five locations nationwide that is hosting all three divisions of an AAU Girls' Basketball National Championships.

"We are very excited to welcome over 5,000 visitors to the county, the substantial economic impact will be felt across the county through hotels, attractions, restaurants, and retail," stated Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of the BCVB. "The selection to host these tournaments illustrates how Butler County is a perfect destination for national sporting events.

Six area athletes finalists for LaRosa’s sports award

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -Six outstanding area male high school athletes have been named as finalists for Greater Cincinnati’s premier prep sports’ award for the 2009-2010 school year.

The male and female winners of the prestigious LaRosa’s “High School MVP of the Year” Award will be announced at the annual Buddy LaRosa’s Sports Hall of Fame Banquet Sunday, June 27, in ceremonies at the CET studios.

Inaugurated in 1986, the LaRosa’s Male and Female MVPs of the Year awards are the oldest on-going awards given annually in Greater Cincinnati to honor outstanding high school athletic achievement. The athletes were nominated by area high schools, fans and coaches.

The six finalists for the 23rd Annual LaRosa’s High School Male MVP of the Year Award are:

  • Dominique Brown, Senior, Winton Woods High School
  • Austin Collinsworth, Senior, Highlands High School
  • Jordan Hicks, Senior, Lakota West, High School
  • B.J. Lowery, Senior, Hughes High School
  • Jordan Sibert, Senior, Princeton High School
  • Zach Wills, Junior, Mason High School
