Volley for the Cure Thursday afternoon and evening at Lakota West

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Lakota West volleyball team will be challenging more than Colerain on Thursday, September 8th.

They’ll also be raising awareness and money to beat breast cancer for Susan G. Komen for the Cure® through its Volley for the Cure events.

In the previous four years since Lakota West began participating in the Volley for the Cure event, the Lakota West volleyball team has raised over $31,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and has sold over 8,000 Volley for the Cure t-shirts. In addition, they have increased breast cancer awareness through the educational information provided at the event.

As part of the OHSVCA’s “Volley for the Cure,” the Lakota West volleyball community has organized activities for breast cancer awareness, including free games, prizes, music, raffles, silent auctions, split the pot, a quilt raffle and more that will be held before, during, and after the matches.

Bengals Player to host Cincinnati Great Sports Race Benefit

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Bengals offensive lineman Nate Livings will host the Cincinnati Great Sports Race on Saturday, October 1, to benefit Living's Kids-In-Sports Initiative. The event will take place at Keehner Park in West Chester and is open for adults and kids.

The day will kick off at 1:00 p.m. with a Kids 2K Sports Race for kids in grades 1-6. At 2:00 p.m., the Great 2K Sports Race will take place. At 4:00 p.m. the Great Sports Race After-Party inclusive of food and drinks will be held.

Based on the popular television show, THE AMAZING RACE, teams of two individuals will run a 2K (1.1 mile) cross country race that includes up to 8 challenge stations that involve a combination of skill, intellect and teamwork. At each station, teams will receive a clue card and be directed to perform a task, as team or by a single member, before proceeding to the next station..

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Bob Evans Restaurants is giving fans another reason to cheer on the Reds this season.

For every Reds win this season, fans 12 and under will receive a free Bob Evans Kids Meal with adult entrée purchase on game days...and the following day as well.  Just mention that the Reds won the night before or that day at the checkout. No ticket stub required.

Fans can also purchase a Reds Heads Kids Club kit at Bob Evans.  Bob Evans restaurants are also offering membership kits for the Reds Heads Kids Club, the official fan club for Cincinnati Reds fans ages 14 and younger.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - On Sunday 21st, the West Chester Outlaws are hosting Cincinnati’s best 2nd and 3rd grade youth football teams in an event to raise funds for clinical and basic cancer research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital

It's the First Annual WCO “Tackle Childhood Cancer” Bowl being held at Lakota East High School, Cincinnati-Dayton Road north of State Route 129.

Here is the schedule:

Game 1 - 9:00am: Little Miami vs. Hamilton Blue (3rd grade)
Game 2 - 10:30am: Oak Hills vs. Wyoming (2nd grade)
Game 3 - 12:00pm: Oak Hills vs. Wyoming (3rd grade)

West Chester to host Water Ski World Championships

BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Butler County Visitors Bureau (BCVB) announced on Friday that the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation has chosen West Chester, as the location for the 10th Biennial Disabled Water Ski World Championships. The event, presented by the Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Foundation, will take place August 25-28, 2011 at Voice of America Park.

The economic impact for the event is estimated at $140,000.

“Butler County is honored to serve as host for such a unique sporting event,” stated Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of the BCVB. “This event will be beneficial not only for Voice of America Park, but also for the many other businesses in the area including hotels, restaurants, attractions and shopping venues.”

The 10th Biennial Disabled Water Ski World Championships will feature three main events: slalom, tricks, and jumping.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Steve Klonne, one of the most successful head football coaches in Greater Cincinnati prep history, has been named the 2010 season winner of the Paul Brown Excellence in Coaching Award.

The award, given annually by the Bengals to an outstanding high school football coach in the region, includes a $5000 donation by the Bengals to the McNicholas athletic department.

“Steve’s name is synonymous in our area with high school coaching excellence,” said Bengals president Mike Brown. “He not only has been a winner, he has earned tremendous respect. There’s no better example of that than the group (Southwestern Ohio Coaches Association) that has actually named their Coach of the Year award after him.”

A Cincinnati native, Klonne will enter his 42nd year in local high school coaching in 2011.

U.S. Women in World Cup a big deal for Claddagh

NEWPORT (FOX19) - Claddagh Irish Pubs in the Newport AND Mason plan to cheer on the U.S. Women’s National Team as they face Japan in the final game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In traditional Irish spirit, the Claddagh crew will be pulling out all the stops to celebrate this monumental soccer match.

Before the match, they will offer a full Irish breakfast and other brunch specialties beginning at 11 a.m.  The will offer pints on outdoor patios, and drink specials and fare from Claddagh’s summer menu among the sea of soccer jerseys and red-white-and-blue décor before, during and after the match as well.

The Claddagh Irish Pub Mason is open on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., with the full menu available until 10 p.m..  The Newport location is open on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
