Miami's Brian Sullivan named MAC Freshman of the Month

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - Miami University freshman guard Brian Sullivan has been lighting it up for the RedHawks and was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Month for January, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. 

Sullivan scored in double figures in six of Miami's eight games in January, including two 20-point performances, and scored at least eight points in every game during the month.  He led Miami in scoring in four of its eight games in January, and his 15.1 ppg in January led all RedHawks. Sullivan shot 48.2 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from 3-point range and 75.0 percent from the free throw line last month.  His 13.9 ppg in MAC play leads all MAC freshmen and ties for eighth among conference leaders.

Miami Letter of Intent event to be webcast Wednesday

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - Miami University's 2012 football pre-season unofficially kicks off Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the third annual National Letter of Intent (NLI) Day webcast: RedHawk Recruiting Live, presented by Miami Savings Bank.

Originating at the football offices inside Yager Stadium, the free webcast begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. Fans can see the live program at www.MURedHawks.com.

Not only will they have the opportunity to get inside information about Coach Don Treadwell's newest RedHawk football recruits, they'll also learn about Miami's recruits for field hockey from Coach Inako Puzo, soccer from Coach Bobby Kramig, and track and field from Coach Kelly Phillips.

RedHawk Recruiting Live will be hosted by the IMG broadcast staff of Steve Baker, Tim Bray and Terry Bridge.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati High School Boxing, a club sport with both boy and girl student athletes from various high schools in the Tri-State area, will host a boxing competition fundraiser on Saturday, January 28, at 2 PM.

The fundraiser will be held at Cincinnati Fitness & Boxing located at 2929 Spring Grove Avenue near Township Avenue in Camp Washingotn. It will feature live boxing matches and a meet-and-greet team and coaches opportunity. Admission is $5. All proceeds will go toward the team’s journey to Rochester, New York, for its match against Aquinas Institute in February.

The Cincinnati High School Boxing Team is comprised of novice and intermediate level athletes from various high schools around the tri-state area.

Participating schools include Moeller, Elder, Lakota West, LaSalle, McAuley, Walnut Hills, Taft, Little Miami, Madeira, and the School for Creative and Performing Arts.

COLUMBUS, OH - Hunters took 19,251 deer during Ohio's muzzleloader season, January 7-10, with Coshocton County again leading the state with 722 deer checked.   In 2011, a preliminary total of 16,934 deer were taken during muzzleloader season.

Counties reporting the highest number of deer checked during the muzzleloader season included: Coshocton-722, Licking-639, Muskingum-638, Guernsey-612, Tuscarawas-581, Belmont-577, Harrison-569, Knox-470, Meigs-466, and Jefferson-465.

In Southwest Ohio, the largest total this year was Adams County, with 336.  The heaviest totals in the state are generally in the areas with the most hills and the least people, which favors rural southeast Ohio.  Among counties containing Ohio's 6 large cities, (Cuyahoga-Cleveland, Franklin-Columbus, Hamilton-Cincinnati, Lucas-Toledo, Montgomery-Dayton, and Summit-Akron), Hamilton County, which is the hilliest, had the most deer taken, at 89.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Moeller high school sent out notice on Tuesday regarding students who have signed national letters of intent to continue their sports activities on a college level.

BRADLEY MACCIOCCHI has committed to play baseball for Head Coach Rob Cooper at Wright State University.  He will play catcher and first base.  Macciocchi has received two varsity letters in baseball as a Crusader and has received second honors all 4 years at Moeller with a 3.5 GPA.  Macciocchi has volunteered at Christmas on Campus with Corryville Catholic.  Bradley is the son of Vince and Lisa Macciocchi of West Chester.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A local martial arts school will let you get acquainted with what they do if you are willing to donate to a local food pantry.

Master K. Kim's World Class Tae Kwon Do is offering 2 weeks of lessons and a free uniform if you bring in five non-perishable food items to the school at 7610 Cox Lane in West Chester.  

The special runs November 11-18.  The food goes to Reach Out Lakota.  They are looking for food with good nutritional value like canned meat products (tuna, chicken, ham, spaghetti with meatballs, Chili with meat and beans, beef stew, etc.,) peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits.

Kroger Stop Diabetes Night at the Ball Park

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Kroger, the Cincinnati Reds and the American Diabetes Association have partnered to support the Stop Diabetes® movement by joining forces for the very first Kroger Stop Diabetes® Night at the Ball Park, happening on Tuesday, September 20 at Great American Ball Park as the Cincinnati Reds take on the Houston Astros at 7:10pm.

Cincinnati area Kroger locations are currently selling discount Mezzanine Level ticket vouchers for $15.  Tickets can be purchased at all Kroger store checkout counters.  Additionally, tickets can be purchased by visiting www.reds.com/stopdiabetes or by calling the American Diabetes Association at 513.759.9330.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the tickets will go to the American Diabetes Association.
