16th annual golf outing to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - West Chester Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, 186 will host the 16th annual Golf Outing on Saturday, September 28 at 10:00 am at the Beckett Ridge Country Club. 

Proceeds will once again benefit Make-A-Wish foundation. 

Early registration is available at the cost of $90.00 per golfer until September 1 and will be $125.00 At the door.  Spots are limited to 140 people. 

Golfers will be treated to a Continental Breakfast, lunch and a choice of Steak or BBQ Chicken Dinner.  There will be contests for longest drive, longest putt, and Hole in One. 

Besides golfing there are many ways you or your business can get involved.  Hole sponsors are available starting at $100.00.  Please contact us for other sponsorship options.  All donations are tax deductible.

Free West Chester community celebration marks start of baseball season

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Reds mascots Rosie Red, Gapper, Mr. Redlegs and Mr. Red will appear at the Streets of West Chester on Sunday, April 14 to celebrate “Grand Slam Sunday” and the start of baseball season.

This free community event, from noon to 2 p.m., will feature kids activities, photos with Rosie Red and the chance to win tickets to an upcoming Reds game. Kids also will have an opportunity to sign up for the Reds Kids Club and parents can register for gift cards from various Streets of West Chester merchants.

The Streets of West Chester is Cincinnati's newest premier, upscale mall, located just off the Union Center exit off Interstate 75.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A ceremony was held last week to welcome eight of Lakota's most celebrated student athletes, coaches and athletic professionals into the Hall of Fame.

Current and former coaches, student athletes, administrators, board members, community leaders, inductees, families and friends gathered at the Wetherington Country Club to recognize and welcome the newest class of Hall of Famers into the Lakota family.

According to the event’s founder and former Lakota Athletic Director, Stu Eversole, this year’s honorees were a “unique blend,” representing countless facets of Lakota’s athletic program.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Butler County Visitors Bureau in conjunction with the Miami University Water Ski club and Lotta Watta have been awarded the 2013 Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships to be held on June 29-30 at Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester.

“We are excited that Butler County’s Voice of America MetroPark has been chosen to host this prestigious youth sporting event,” said Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of the Butler County Visitors Bureau, “Having hosted this event in 2008, we’re looking forward to welcoming USA Water Ski and their top athletes back to Butler County.”

The two-day event will feature 100 of the nation’s top junior water ski athletes under the age of 21 who will compete for titles in tricks, jumping, and top overall categories. The championship event is expected to have an estimated economic impact of $155,000.

The event is free and open to the public.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -  Olympic gold medalist and reigning national women's gymnastics champion Jordyn Wieber made an appearance on Tuesday at a private luncheon for challenged children.

Wieber, a key member of the US Womens Gymnastics Team's famed "Fierce Five", was the featured guest at the luncheon at the Embassy Suites in Covington.

Jordyn will also make an appearance on Tuesday for a gymnastics clinic at Perfection Gymnastics in West Chester.  Wieber will be featured in the clinic as a special instructor, and the clinic will include a question and answer session, photos, autographs, and more. 

Jordyn is in Cincinnati with the Kellogg’s® Tour of Gymnastics Champions and is scheduled to perform at US Bank Arena on Thursday.

MetroParks announces plan to build athletic complex at VOA park

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A formal groundbreaking is scheduled for mid-October at Voice of America park in West Chester for a new athletic complex.

MetroParks announced  on Tuesday a collaboration with The Butler County Visitors Bureau to build an athletic complex at Voice of America Park projected to be open for use by the fall of 2014. Preliminary construction for the 22 multipurpose natural grass fields began in August.

Jonathan Granville, MetroParks Executive Director, stated, “Not only will these new fields expand recreational opportunities for local residents, but the project will begin the transformation of the park into a premier athletic venue that can attract visitors from throughout the Midwest.” “More importantly”, Granville stated,” MetroParks is pleased to have been able to leverage the capital necessary by working with a funding partner who will mutually benefit from this expansion.
