Adena Elementary principal accepting job in Mariemont

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Ericka Simmons will be recommended to the Mariemont Board of Education as the new principal of Mariemont Elementary School at the May 21 board meeting.

Ms. Simmons has ten years of experience in an administrative role at the elementary level; one year of experience as a district math resource teacher; and nine years of classroom teaching experience. She is currently principal at Adena Elementary School with Lakota Local Schools.

“Ms. Simmons’ professional experience provides the well-rounded background for which we were looking, and I believe she will be a valuable asset to our school, our district and our community,” said Steven Estepp, who was recently appointed as Mariemont City School District’s next superintendent. “She has demonstrated strengths in implementing strategies for improving teaching and learning through the development and consistent communication of a vision and establishment of clear goals.”

Lakota athletic Hall of Fame welcomes new members

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A ceremony was held last week to welcome eight of Lakota's most celebrated student athletes, coaches and athletic professionals into the Hall of Fame.

Current and former coaches, student athletes, administrators, board members, community leaders, inductees, families and friends gathered at the Wetherington Country Club to recognize and welcome the newest class of Hall of Famers into the Lakota family.

According to the event’s founder and former Lakota Athletic Director, Stu Eversole, this year’s honorees were a “unique blend,” representing countless facets of Lakota’s athletic program.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The West Point Societies of Cincinnati and Dayton hosted their first annual Leadership & Ethics Seminar at Miami University Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester, Ohio on Friday, February 15.

The seminar provided selected sophomore and junior students and faculty members from high schools in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, the opportunity to experience some of the leadership and ethics training developed for cadets at the US Military Academy at West Point.

Nearly 100 Students and 50 Faculty members from 50 local high schools attended the event. Students Tim Thomas from Colerain High School attended the event accompanied by Mr. Gus Schroeder who is a Teacher at the school.

Free school safety seminar being held in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Sonitrol of SW Ohio is conducting a free school safety seminar for schools, churches and daycare centers on Wednesday, March 13th. 

The event will be held at the Savannah Center, 5533 Chappell Crossing Blvd in West Chester.

Registration begins at 7:30 am with the first speaker beginning at 8:00 am and the seminar ending around 4pm.  You will have the opportunity to hear from the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, Cincinnati Police Department, National School Safety Expert Speaker Wolfgang Halbig and Technology Experts.

You can bring a copy of your crisis or emergency plan and your comprehensive school safety assessment for sharing and review with other agencies.
