Police find scrap metal thief hiding in cornfield

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- A Hamilton man was arrested after stealing items from a barn and then attempting to hide from police in a corn field.

West Chester Police received a call of people stealing items from a barn on Cincinnati Dayton Road on Thursday afternoon. A property owner across the street spotted a suspicious pickup truck outside the barn.

When police arrived on scene, they found the pickup truck full of scrap metal, in addition to metal tools, a chainsaw and an engine hoist.

Robert Pegg, 51, immediately ran on foot leaving the stolen property behind.

The Ohio State Patrol happened to have an airplane in the area. The pilot spotted Pegg lying in a cornfield, when police moved in and arrested him.

Pegg was taken to the Butler County Jail. He was charged with Breaking and Entering and Possessing Criminal Tools.
