Ohio I-75 Tuskegee Airmen Bill to receive consideration | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
CINCINNATI (FOX19) - State Representative Denise Driehaus will hold a news conference on Monday, January 23, at 10:30 AM, at the Laurel- Lincoln World War II Memorial in Cincinnati about House Bill 57. Her bill, introduced on January 26, 2011 and referred to the Transportation, Public Safety, and Homeland Security Committee, would designate Interstate Route 75 as the "Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Trail."
The bill will give that designation to the length of I-75 in Ohio, and allow but not require the state director of transportation to put up markers along the highway.
She will be joined by Cincinnati City Council Member Cecil Thomas, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, State Senator Eric Kearney, and Representatives Alicia Reece and Dale Mallory.
The memorial is at 701 Ezzard Charles Drive. The timing of this event reflects discussion in the State Legislature on HB57 that is scheduled to come up this week, as well as the weekend's release of the George Lucas movie "Red Tails" which is about the Tuskegee Airmen. Several original Airmen live in the Greater Cincinnati area.
