Michaels stores to giveaway more than $100,000 in gift cards on Sunday

(FOX19) - Michaels crafts stores across the country want to award customers for participating in a random act of kindness.

Michaels will randomly hand out more than 100,000 gift cards at its nearly 1,100 stores on Sunday, February 17.

This is the second year Michaels will hand out free gift cards in observance of Randon Acts of Kindness Day.

“We’ve heard wonderful stories from our customers and store associates about how inspired they were by the giveaway last year,” said Michaels Chief Marketing Officer Paula Puleo.

MidPointe Library West Chester Launches Jazz Series

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The library won’t be so quiet this winter, as the MidPointe Library West Chester launches a Jazz Series at the end of February.

The series kicks off on Sunday, February 24 as the Phil DeGreg Trio play from 1:30 to 3:30 PM.  These Cincinnati favorites feature classic jazz.  Art Gore and Friends will hit the stage on Sunday, March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  Art Gore swings hard with a group of Cincinnati’s jazz elite and his drumming has taken him around the world.  The series concludes on Sunday, March 17 with “gypsy jazz” compliments of the Faux Frenchmen from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  Their style is reminiscent of 1930’s-era Paris nightclubs.

Several free community events scheduled for Macy's Arts Sampler 2013

(FOX19) - Macy's Arts Sampler, presented by ArtsWave, celebrates theater, dance, museums, and music throughout the region in more than 20 Tri-State neighborhoods. The annual community campaign, which raised $11.2 million dollars in 2012, supports local arts organizations.

Over 60 free performances and/or activities will be offered in the following neighborhoods: Clermont County, Columbia Tusculum, College Hill, Covington, Eden Park, Fairfield, Mason, West Chester and Wyoming

The 2013 ArtsWave campaign, the largest united arts fund in the country, runs from February through April, and the goal is $11.5 million.

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Arts Council of West Chester will have a booth set up at the West Chester Farmer's Market on Saturday, September 22.

There will be activities for kids and more. The event runs from 9am - 1pm.

Free performance of Macbeth coming to Keehner Park

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will perform “Macbeth” at the Keehner Park Amphitheatre at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 18.

This free performance is presented by the Arts Council of West Chester and Liberty and ArtsWave, a non-profit organization promoting the arts.

The performance is part of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s sixth annual Shakespeare in the Park summer tour, which brings classic theatre to parks all around the Greater Cincinnati area.

Guests to the park are welcome to bring chairs and picnics for the evening, however alcohol is not permitted. For more information, please visit www.WestChesterOH.org.

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Ricky Skaggs has a heart for Hope House Mission’s work. On October 4, Skaggs and his band, Kentucky Thunder, will come to the Princeton Pike Church of God in West Chester to do a benefit concert for Middletown’s Hope House.

“We are excited and grateful that this Grammy-winning artist will give his time and talent to help homeless people in Middletown and Southwest Ohio,” says Mitchell Foster, executive director.  “Ricky says he’s not holding anything back. He’s bringing out all the stops to make this a fantastic experience for everyone. He has a huge heart.”

The evening will begin with a county style, pre-concert dinner and silent auction. “You might call it a down home feast with all the fixings,” says Foster. “The whole affair should be a great time.”

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) – The Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester at 7850 VOA Park Drive is hosting free concerts on the last Sunday of each month from June to October.  Each show will run from 5-7 p.m.

The lineup:

  • June 24: The Mistics – Motown
  • July 29 September 30 John Kogge & the Lonesome Strangers - Folk-a-billy rock
  • August 26 Lisa Bialis - Blues & Roots
  • September 30 Stormy Weather Quintet - Jazz
  • October 28 John Ford - Acoustic Roots

Snacks, soda and adult beverages are available at all concerts.  In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the Lodge
