Lakota athletic Hall of Fame welcomes new members

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A ceremony was held last week to welcome eight of Lakota's most celebrated student athletes, coaches and athletic professionals into the Hall of Fame.

Current and former coaches, student athletes, administrators, board members, community leaders, inductees, families and friends gathered at the Wetherington Country Club to recognize and welcome the newest class of Hall of Famers into the Lakota family.

According to the event’s founder and former Lakota Athletic Director, Stu Eversole, this year’s honorees were a “unique blend,” representing countless facets of Lakota’s athletic program.

Free document shredding in West Chester on Saturday

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)  - The West Chester Police Department will offer a free shredding and identity theft awareness event from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.

During the event, West Chester police will be at The West Chester Activity Center, 7900 Cox Road, to accept personal paperwork for shredding and to answer any questions related to identity theft.

No registration is required; participants are free to arrive any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please remove paper clips and staples from the documents to be shredded.

Stolen credit card used at West Chester gas station

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Police are searching for a woman who used a stolen credit card at a gas station in West Chester.

On February 7, the victim had her purse and its contents stolen from Steak and Shake on Civic Centre Blvd.

The victim’s credit card was used a short time later at the Shell Station on Princeton Glendale Road by a female captured on surveillance video. 

The suspect purchased Newport cigarettes and fuel.

New health care facility set to open this summer in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A new health care facility will soon be added to this growing segment of West Chester's economy. Beckett Springs Hospital is scheduled to open sometime in July on Shepherd Farm Drive, just off Union Centre Boulevard near State Route 747.

Beckett Springs is a private hospital with 48 beds offering treatment for a variety of behavioral health issues including addiction.

"There is a tremendous need in the region for behavioral health care," said David Polunas, chief executive officer for the new facility. "We will offer a variety of treatment programs in the community including family group, community outreach and out-patient treatment, and voluntary in-patient treatment of behavioral health disorders."

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - More than 600 people are registered to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the MDA Southwest Ohio Muscle Walk to help pay tribute to — and raise funds for — children and adults served by MDA in the Greater Dayton/Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

"We want to encourage people in the Southwest Ohio area to give back to local families affected by neuromuscular disease," said MDA Area Director Southwest Ohio, Laura Shepherd, "By supporting the MDA Muscle Walk event on March 23, 2013, people can make an immediate difference and help raise awareness and funds for research and vital services benefiting families served by the Association."

New program offered in West Chester to help build better neighborhoods

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - “Need to Know” Guide to Building Better Neighborhoods will serve as an informative training session offering homeowners with important information on protecting their property investment.

The free program will show homeowners who to work independently and as a neighborhood to protect their property investment through property maintenance, leveling the impacts of foreclosed properties and proper permitting processes.

The Township’s code enforcement officers, community development specialists, police and fire department representatives will be available to answer homeowners’ questions.

The free program will be offered April 3, 7 to 9 p.m. at the West Chester Library.

Jogger sent to hospital after being hit by car

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19)- A jogger has been sent to
the hospital after being hit by a car in Liberty Township.

It just happened at
the intersection of Van Gorden and Princeton Road around 6:30 a.m.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but the person's name and condition have not been released.
