Lakota enrollment made easy

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- Lakota schools are gearing up to start another school year.

The first day of classes in August 25th. But if you new to the district you can get everything you need to enroll online. Go to the schools website and get everything you need from a check list to all the paperwork. Then take all the paperwork to thedistrict’s Enrollment Center, located at 8735 Cincinnati-Dayton Road. You can enroll your kindergartner to your high schooler at the same location.

The creation of the Enrollment Center saved the district around $99,000 by centralizing and streamlining the process.

Enrollment Center staff members will deal with state laws and policy, handle custody issues and back ground checks, verify change of addresses, address homeless situations, administer tests for placement and create data reports that must be sent to the state.

Heat Emergency issued for Tuesday & Wednesday

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Health Commissioner has issued a Heat Emergency till August 4th because temperatures are expected to be a dangerous levels and could put individuals at risk for heat related illness if the proper precautions are not followed.

Cincinnati has been under a Heat Emergency for 22 days so far this year.  That compares to 4 days in 2009.

To avoid heat stress or heat related illness, Cincinnati citizens are advised to take the following precautions.

  • Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty. 
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages; alcohol can increase a person's risk to heat related illnesses. 
  • Decrease physical activity such as yard work or exercise.

Update: Smog Alert extended through Wednesday

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The SMOG Alert has been extended through Wednesday for Boone, Butler, Campbell, Clermont, Hamilton, Kenton and Warren counties.

Air pollution levels are expected to continue to be in the range considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. The Regional Ozone Coalition recommends children, people with respiratory problems and the elderly stay indoors during the Smog Alert.

Here are some suggestions from the Regional Ozone Coalition:

  • Keep your vehicle maintained.
  • Keep tires well inflated.
  • Refuel after 6:00 p.m. and don't top off.
  • Don't idle your vehicle.
  • Avoid quick acceleration and sudden stops as they increase fuel consumption.

  • Carpool. Find neighbors going in your direction and share a ride.

Farmers market today

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- The Saturday Farmers Market on The Square continues this weekend. You can shop for fresh produce, meats, flowers, and other freshly-made products at The West Chester Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Special activities are offered each Saturday including gardening demonstrations, craft workshops and more. Children can participate each week in a Market Scavenger Hunt. Find the "secret" item in the market and earn a wooden nickel. Nickels are redeemable for prizes at the end of the Market season.

Man allegedly kidnaps woman and child

ANDERSON TWP. (FOX19) - A 21-year-old West Chester man is being held on a $40,000 bond after police say he forced a woman and her 3-year-old son into his car in Anderson Township.

Richard Schaffer III is charged with abduction, kidnapping and assault after police say he attacked the woman at a residence in the 1300 block of Crotty Court in Anderson Township on Tuesday.

According to court documents, he then forced the woman and her toddler child into his car and drove them to West Chester Township.

U.S Bank in Liberty Township robbed

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP (FOX19) - The U.S. Bank on Hamilton Middletown Road in Liberty Township was robbed around 2:51 p.m. Wednesday according to police.

The suspect handed the teller a note stating that he wanted money. No weapon was displayed.

The suspect is a white male believed to be in his early to mid 50s. Witnesses also state that the man was balding with a comb-over and long sideburns. The man was wearing a colored "beach scene" shirt and had a band-aid on his forehead.

The man has not been located. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Butler County Sheriff's Office at 513-785-1300.

Magician coming to West Chester library

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- Magician Jim Kleefeld will be at the West Chester Public Library today.

The interactive comedy and magic show is geared to children ages 4 to 14.
