Exotic dancer's case bound over to grand jury

WEST CHESTER TWP, OH (FOX19) - The case of an exotic dancer accused of hitting and killing a Monroe man was bound over to a grand jury.

Kristina Hensley cried in court as a Monroe Police lieutenant testified about the gruesome scene he came upon after Hensley allegedly dragged Jae Cho's body nearly 1.5 miles beneath her car Saturday morning.

"What happened here is completely unacceptable, it's just a very big tragedy," said William Weitz, a friend of Cho.

Cho's friends attended the hearing and shed tears in court, their emotions still fresh after just returning from Cho's funeral.   "Just a real happy guy, I mean I really don't know anybody that had a bad word to say about him, always smiling great guy," Weitz said.   Police say Hensl

Heat Emergency issued for Tuesday through Thursday

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Health Commissioner has issued a Heat Emergency from Tuesday, August 10 until Thursday, August 12 because temperatures are expected to be at dangerous levels and could put individuals at risk for heat related illness if the proper precautions are not followed.

A heat emergency indicates that the predicted temperature or heat index exceeds 95 degrees for an extended period of time.

Cincinnati has been under a Heat Emergency for 24 days so far this year.  That compares to 4 days in 2009.

To avoid heat stress or heat related illness, Cincinnati citizens are advised to take the following precautions.

  • Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty. 
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages; alcohol can increase a person's risk to heat related illnesses. 
  • Decrease physical activity such as yard work or exercise.

Lakota sports passes on sale

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19)- Do you like High School sports? Supporters can buy family, adult and single student athletic passes starting on today for Lakota East and Lakota West events.

The passes can be purchased at the athletic offices at East & West between the 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Each school offers an all-sport family pass, which allows all family members access to all home sporting events for $165. Those passes can be upgraded with an additional $55 to include all home events for both schools.

Lakota West family passes will be honored at home events for Lakota Ridge Jr., Lakota Plains Jr. and Lakota West Freshman schools.

Lakota East family passes will be honored at home events for Liberty Jr., Hopewell Jr. and Lakota East Freshman schools.

Single student and single adult all-sports pass can also be purchased.

Smog alert in effect today

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The SMOG Alert has been issued for today for Boone, Butler, Campbell, Clermont, Hamilton, Kenton and Warren counties.

Air pollution levels are expected to continue to be in the range considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. The Regional Ozone Coalition recommends children, people with respiratory problems and the elderly stay indoors during the Smog Alert.

Here are some suggestions from the Regional Ozone Coalition:

  • Keep your vehicle maintained.
  • Keep tires well inflated.
  • Refuel after 6:00 p.m. and don't top off.
  • Don't idle your vehicle.
  • Avoid quick acceleration and sudden stops as they increase fuel consumption.

DQ Miracle Treat Day

Tri-state under an excessive HEAT WARNING for Wednesday

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The National Weather Service has placed the entire tri-state under an excessive heat warning from Wednesday. That means that temperatures could feel anywhere from 105 to 110 degrees. The heat warning remains in effect until 8:00p.m. This is the first time this summer the tri-state has been under a heat warning.

Citizen police academy program

WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP (FOX19)-  The West Chester Township Police Department is accepting applications for its fall session of Citizen Police Academy, offered as part of the community's ongoing education program called West Chester University.

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to give civilians a closer look at the workings of the Police Department. The 10-week program will be offered on Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 15.

"Through the first sessions of Citizen Police Academy we have started to build strong and lasting partnerships between the Police Department and the community we serve," said Police Chief Erik Niehaus. "Alumni of the program have become ambassadors for the police department and have assisted at events like Touch a Truck and the bike rodeo."

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and either reside or work in West Chester Township.
