Dogs to take over Fairfield pool

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - The Fairfield Aquatic Center closed for the season on Labor Day, at least for people.

For dogs, it's a different story.  They get their own "Dog Day" from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6th. 

Dogs can enjoy the whole pool, the special water features, and a large grassy area by the pool.  Lifeguards will be on duty.

If you're a human, you're allowed to wade in the shallow end.

One dog is allowed in per person.  Admission is free with a season pass, and otherwise dollars per family.

The Aquatic Center is at 2605 Augusta Boulevard, which runs south from Resor Road between Pleasant Avenue and Winton Road.

Township hires 3 new Police Officers

Three new officers will join the ranks of the West Chester Township Police Department in the next few weeks. All three of the officers hired are certified and will begin patrol duties right away.

Carl Beebe is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and has been employed by the Cincinnati Police Department since 2008.

Charles Hawkins is a graduate of the American Military University and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2001 to 2005, stationed in the West Wing of the White House. He earned his Ohio Peace Officer certification from the University of Cincinnati, Clermont College and has been an auxiliary office with the Mt. Orab Police Department.

Dustin Parrett is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Butler Tech Police Academy. He has been working as an auxiliary officer with the Sardinia Police Department.

The three officers will fill vacancies in the department created as a result of retirements and a resignation.

West Chester hires three new officers

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - West Chester Township has hired three new officers who will be seen on the roads of the township in the next few weeks.

Officer Carl Beebe comes to West Chester from the Cincinati Police.  He is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University who started with Cincinnati in 2008.

Obama Administration Awards Over $1,000,000 in Youth Drug & Alcohol Prevention Grants

Congratulations to the 2010-2011 Drug Free Communities Grant recipients, as awarded by the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Partners for a Drug-Free Milford Miami Township is the region's newest grantee. They will receive $625,000 over the next five years to facilitate citizen participation in local youth drug prevention efforts including prescription drug diversion and prevention initiatives and underage drinking programs.

Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown continues through the weekend

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - For the first time in the history of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown features schools from Cincinnati, Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Indiana. Several games will be played through the weekend at UC's Nippert Stadium and at St. Xavier High School. In Mason on Thursday, Turpin came out on top against Loveland with a 24-6 win.

The remaining games include: Friday, August 27 at Nippert Stadium: Anderson vs. Oak Hills, 6:00 p.m.; Elder vs. Winton Woods, 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 28 at Nippert Stadium: La Salle vs. Lakota West, Noon; Middletown vs. Simon Kenton, 2:45 p.m.; Harrison vs. East Central, Indiana 5:30p.m.; Colerain vs. Northmont, 8:15 p.m.

Sunday, August 29 at St. Xavier High School: St. Xavier vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel, 3:00p.m.; Moeller vs. Huber Heights Wayne, 7:00p.m.

Water Works to offer paperless automatic payments

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Greater Cincinnati Water Works is adding a nother billing option for poeple who get city water.

The Water Works is offering a service through a company called MyCheckFree that provides for billing through email and allows a cusotmer to program the system to make a payment at the desired time.

The system also lets people look at their accounts online and emails reminder notices.  Since this system is used by some other companies, customers can view more than one account through the same system.

The option requires the cusotmer to have web access.  After things are set up and seem to be working, paper bills are stopped.

The system is free for the customer, because the Water Works pays for the costs.

Names and more information released in Fairfield Township killing.

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Fairfield Township police say that the man murdered in front of his family Wednesday night was 34-year-old Joe Patterson II.

Patterson was in his townhouse on Bentbranch Lane with his wife Amy and three children, when two men forced their way into the apartment at 11:19 p.m.

A fight broke out, and the men shot Patterson multiple times, then took off on foot.

On a 9-1-1 tape, his wife said the men also threatened to shoot her.

Bentbranch Lane is in a large, newer townhouse complex northwest of the corner of Tylersville Road and Bypass 4.

The police report the suspects as wearting dark clothing, one carrying a handgun and the other possibly a rifle.  One suspect is described as being a shoter, slender black male and the other suspect a larger black male, approximately 6' 00" and 230 lbs."

Police say it appears the men deliberately targeted this address.
