In Ohio, US House speaker hopeful sees 'big day'

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) - U.S. House Republican leader John Boehner sees a big day ahead for his party.

Boehner is in line to become speaker if Republicans gain a majority in the House, and he said Tuesday they have "a real opportunity" to do so.

He also called the election a chance for those unhappy with government spending, takeovers and bailouts to make their voices heard. Boehner spoke briefly with reporters after voting at a church polling station near his home in the northern Cincinnati suburb of West Chester.

A supporter of Democratic congressional nominee Justin Coussoule (KUH'-soo-lee) asked Boehner what he had done for his home district. Boehner replied that he had represented his constituents honestly.

Levy supporters make last push to get the word out

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - With Election Day just one day away, at least one local school district is making one last push to get the word out in support of a levy.

A 'Honk for Lakota' will happen at the corner of Tylersville and Cox roads from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Lakota has lost 4 of its last 5 attempts at a new operating levy since 2004. Back in May, voters said no by one of the largest margins. Still, supporters are hoping this time is different.

This fall the school district has seen crowded classrooms, more teacher layoffs, higher fees and the threat of no high school busing in January.

With over 18,000 students, Lakota is one of the largest school districts in Ohio. If you drive around West Chester and Liberty Township, you'll see competing pro and anti school levy signs.

If it's not passed, Lakota is projecting a $4.2 million budget deficit for 2012.
